Common cold is one of the diseases that I get really easily. Being in India, I average around 4 bouts per year. And all the times I get full symptoms with the usual 7 to 10 days of sickness. While I am not super worried about any productivity loss by doing the maths on the number of inactive days, I find these days to be extremely uncomfortable, annoying, and painful, physically and mentally. Specially since there are high chances of me getting sick when I am travelling or am around more people. These are exactly the moments when I don't want to fall sick.
Surprisingly I have not really taken any real step to solve this problem even though this has been happening since childhood. Sparsely populated regions with better health awareness have helped me. In the USA, my per year average was around 0.5. But I can control my environment only so much.
I believe I first need to understand my susceptibility to influenza vs rhino viruses etc. as that will be important to decide whether seasonal shots will help me (India doesn't have a strong culture of flu shots). Any other preventive measure needs me to understand seasonal patterns around the occurrences, so I need to start logging some contextual data points every time I get sick. One of my goals for the next year will be to make good progress in this area. Let's see how it goes.
